The Old Bridgewater Historical Society, has, on its website, a book for $ titled “The Genealogies of Samuel Packard of Bridgewater, Massachusetts and Abel Packard of Cummington, Mass.” and it is by Theophilus Packard who claimed his wife was “insane” (see our previous post). This book may have the same content as something like Nahum Mitchell’s . Bear in mind that some genealogical researchers question some of the statements of this work about the earliest generations of this family. For one example, although the surname of Deacon Samuel's wife is baldly given as Orcutt (possibly cribbed from the often unreliable "History of the Early Settlement of Bridgewater"), she was likely Susanna Bickley, aunt of William Orcutt of . Bridgwater was made a borough by royal charter in and was granted the right to have a mayor in At an early date it became known as a river port and is shown as such on a map drawn for the 'History' written by Matthew of Paris in It was also known in the Middle Ages for its market and its fairs. County land records are not included in this database. Note that there are a small numbers of non-land records included, such as bills of sale for slaves (e.g., George, Negro, Book H-West Jersey, folio ) and lists of new arrivals to the colony (e.g., Governor Gawen Lawrie, Book A, folio ). Results are limited to records per search.
